Conversations with a Christian Cowgirl: Finding Our Faith

Howdy honey, I know things have been tough, I have been where you are at, but I am here to reassure you that things do get better. I want to share with you what I have gone through that has made me who I am. Let’s sit and chat about how we can deal with hard times and beginning our walk with Christ.

I’m going to share something with you that many do not know- but I have dealt with bullying since I was seven years old. There would be times I would make up excuses to not go to school because I was scared of running into my bullies in class. I had faced that problem all the way though high school.

Fast forward to graduation day, I had never been so happy. College was my ticket to a fresh start, but my first two years was not a breeze. I met people that taught me lessons that were very hard to go through. I lost sight of who I was, and I was questioning my purpose. Until one day, I was walking on campus and was handed a card about a church service for college students, I was nervous to attend, but I am so glad I did.

All my life I was a believer, but it took for me to be at my lowest to really realize just how good God is. He drug me out of the hole that I never thought I would get out of. I started to attend TROC at Timber Ridge church every Wednesday night, and the Sunday service. I decided for my twentieth birthday that I wanted to be baptized, and that is exactly what I did. I then started serving on the TROC volunteer team.

After going public with my faith, life was not a walk in the park because of that decision, but I have come to learn that God gives his toughest battles to his strongest warriors. I was given clarity, strength, and a hunger to grow closer to Jesus. I am far from perfect, and I do not have it all together, but we were not called to be perfect, we were called to be the image of what the king has made us in, and to walk in the path he has laid out for us.

I have made my fair share of mistakes, everyone has, but I am a firm believer in everything happens for a reason, and we are meant to learn from our mistakes. If you feel like you are lost, with nowhere to run, run to Jesus. If you run from God every time something gets hard, you are going to live a miserable life. Romans 15:7 says “Accept one another, then, just as Christ accepted you, in order to bring praise to God”. Run to him, come as you are. He loves you and everything you have to offer.

I hope that my story helps you understand that there are better days ahead. When I feel that I have failed the father again, I remind myself of this verse that I live by, Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. I am still learning and growing, and I plan to share my struggles and how I overcame them with y’all.
